Police confirm person hit between Tunbridge Wells and Hastings has died

Police have confirmed that a person hit by a train earlier today (Monday, August 12) has died. British Transport Police said they were called to reports of a casualty on the tracks at around 2pm.

Services were stopped between Tunbridge Wells and Hastings after the person was hit by a train between the stations. The British Transport Police have since released a statement to confirm that the person has sadly died.

The statement reads: "We were called to an area of line in Burwash, East Sussex, at around 2pm today, Monday 12 August, following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Officers attended along with paramedics but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

A spokesperson for Southeastern said earlier today: "Sadly we have just received news that a train has hit a person on the Hastings line, so trains are now unable to run between Tunbridge Wells and Hastings. We are working to arrange alternative transport at the moment."
