Police confirm tragic death of woman trapped in flat fire on Stockton estate
A woman sadly died in a flat fire on the Tilery estate of Stockton, police have confirmed.
As reported, Carlile Walk, in Tilery, Stockton, was cordoned off on Monday night after reports of the fire breaking out around 9pm. Firefighters, police and paramedics filled the street and smoke could be seen coming from the first floor flat.
Sharing the sad news of the woman's death on Tuesday, a spokeswoman for Cleveland Police said: "Police attended a report of a fire at a property on Carlile Walk in Stockton around 9.15pm on Monday, October 14. Sadly, the body of a woman was found in the property."
Three fire engines attended, along with several police and ambulance vehicles until around 11.15pm. Roads in the area were cordoned off, from Tilery Way to half way down Talbot Street.
Forensic teams and plain clothes detectives could be seen working at the scene. The spokeswoman for police said: "Officers have informed the woman’s family and our thoughts remain with them at this extremely difficult time.
"Enquiries are continuing along with Cleveland Fire Brigade to establish the cause of the fire, which is currently being treated as unexplained." Pictures from the aftermath of the fire showed blackened and scorched windows of the flat.
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 9.17pm yesterday evening to an incident at a private property on Carlile Walk in Stockton. We sent a clinical team leader and an emergency ambulance to the scene, along with fire and police colleagues."
