POLICE have set up a large cordon in a Southend road close to the city centre after an incident this morning.

Photos show police tape has been set up around the former St Johns Ambulance building, with officers at the scene and the cordon in place in Princes Street since at least 11.45am.

Residents have reported Princes Street has been closed off by the cordon.

A police van can also be seen blocking off part of a road, and a damaged car appears to be towed away at the scene near the junction with Queens Road.

The nature of the incident is unclear at this stage, with Essex Police contacted by the Echo for comment.
