Police descend on busy bus station and close road

Police closed a road near a town centre bus station after concerns were raised for the safety of a woman.

Merseyside Police were called to a multi-storey car park off Conway Street in Birkenhead at around 3.50pm on Sunday (June 2). Officers received reports that a woman was standing on the wrong side of a barrier.

An eye witness told the ECHO that police closed the road around Birkenhead bus station while the incident was ongoing. Diversions were in place and a mechanical lift was in use.

One person reported that they could not get off the bus at the station while the incident was ongoing.

The woman was brought down to safety by officers and was detained under the mental health act.
