Police descend on Chester city centre following report of 'suspicious activity'
Trains and buses were cancelled as police swarmed Chester city centre after receiving a report of 'suspicious activity'. Cheshire Police confirmed to the ECHO that at 5.09pm today (November 22) police received the report of suspicious activity on two buses in Chester city centre.
One bus was near the train station and the other was near the bus interchange. Merseyrail trains between Chester and Liverpool were disrupted following the "security alert", as were the 1 and X1 bus routes which connect the two cities.
A cordon is in place and a number of roads are closed while an investigation is underway. One eye-witness told Cheshire Live there was "quite a lot of panic" among people in the area.
