Police Face Misconduct Charges After Ignoring Complaints About Paedophile Ian Watkins For Five Years

Three police officers face misconduct charges after allegedly ignoring repeated complaints against paedophile Ian Watkins for five years.

The Lostprophets frontman was jailed for 29 years in 2013 for sexually abusing children, including the attempted rape of an infant baby.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission has now criticised South Wales Police for failing to investigate Ian after his ex-girlfriend Joanna Mjadzelics called Welsh social services way back in 2008.

In 2011 Joanna again emailed Peter Vaughn, the South Wales chief constable, to tell him that Ian was actively raping children but officers didn’t do anything about the allegations.

Joanna was originally accused of possessing indecent images of a child, sending indecent images to Ian and demanding that he send her illegal pornography, but she was cleared of all charges in 2015.

Speaking to The Sun, she explained: “I was ignored by the police on multiple occasions. It is now clear that, had I been listened to, some children would not have come to harm at Watkins’ hands.

"The police have a lot to learn about how they treat credible witnesses and victims of abuse.”

Two women were jailed alongside Ian for assisting his sick crimes.
