Police Fire Gas at Protesters as Chile Unrest Enters Fifth Day

At least 15 people have reportedly died in protests across Chile, which entered their fifth consecutive day on October 22. Five of those confirmed deaths were in a factory fire.

Looters have ravaged stores and buildings have burned during the deadly protests.

In this video, Chilean authorities can be seen firing gas from an armored vehicle at protesters in the streets of the capital Santiago.

A state of emergency was declared on Friday, reports said. The protests began in response to a proposed hike in subway fares but have since expanded to encompass general anger about the cost of living and inequality in the country, according to reports. Credit: James Reilly via Storyful
