Police given another day to question men arrested for murder of Pc Andrew Harper

Police have been given a further 24 hours to question ten men arrested on suspicion of murder, after Pc Andrew Harper was killed on Friday.

Thames Valley Police said officers had applied to Reading Magistrates Court to be given another day to question the men.

Under UK law suspects can be held in custody for 24 hours before they must be charged or released.

Police can apply to a court for permission to hold suspects for longer.

Thames Valley Police said four of the men are from Burghfield Common, Berkshire, near to a caravan site police searched on Saturday.

Two suspects are from Bramley, in Hampshire, and others are from Aldermaston, Mortimer and Reading in Berkshire.

The arrested men include a 13-year-old, two 16-year-olds and two 17-year-olds.

Pc Harper was killed while attending a burglary between Reading and Newbury on Thursday night.

He was dragged some distance by a car before being run over by another vehicle.

The police investigation into his death is ongoing.
