Police on Glasgow M8 after car ploughs into barrier in horror multi-vehicle crash

Emergency services scrambled to the busy M8 this evening, Wednesday June 19, following a horror multi-vehicle crash.

Police and paramedics rushed to J26 at Hillington eastbound at around 7.30pm after an accident which is understood to have involved three vehicles. The Scottish Fire and Rescue service are also said to be at the scene.

Traffic Scotland confirmed that lanes one and two are closed. It is not yet known whether anyone has been injured.

Pictures shared with Glasgow Live shows a car "crushed" after having ploughed into a barrier.

An eyewitness said: "There's been a really bad accident on the M8 just before Braehead heading east. There's three cars involved, it's a big smash up.

"It's the worst crash I've seen in a while, the front of the car was crushed.

"Traffic is slow on approach."

Traffic Scotland wrote on X.com: "Lane 1 and 2 CLOSED due to a multi-vehicle collision. Police and emergency services at the scene."
