Police found a realistic-looking gun in a drug dealer's BMW when it sped past them on a Nottinghamshire road. Zak Forman went past cops at speed on the A616 from Ollerton to Newark so they pulled him over just outside the village of Wellow.

The 30-year-old's car was seized by officers and they found the weapon, which turned out to be an air pistol, under the driver's seat. They also found a wrap of cocaine and cash in the car.

Police then searched Forman's home in Lansbury Road, Edwinstowe, where they found more cocaine and cash as well as mobile phones that were linked to the supply of drugs. He was subsequently charged with a series of offences following his arrest on 30 November 2020.

He went on to plead guilty to supplying a Class A drug, between 7 February 2020 and 2 January 2021, possession with intent to supply a Class A drug, on 30 November 2020 and 1 January 2021, and having an imitation firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence, on 30 November 2020. Forman was jailed for three years when he appeared at Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing on Wednesday (11 September).

PC Lee Ryan, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This case should serve as a warning to anyone thinking of dealing drugs and carrying a weapon - and that includes those who choose to carry an imitation firearm - that we treat reports of this nature extremely seriously, we will track down offenders, and we will use the full weight of the law to put them behind bars.

"Forman has been brought to justice thanks to the diligence and determination of officers on patrol that day. He was behaving suspiciously and was trying to conceal things in the car - and as we discovered he had plenty to hide. The air pistol looked realistic and if it was used to commit other offences could clearly have caused alarm and concern."
