Police Helicopter Rescues Woman Whose Car Fell 150 Yards Down Napa County Cliff

A 20-year-old woman survived a harrowing ordeal after her car “flew” 150 yards off a cliff in Napa County, California, on Tuesday, May 21.

California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers responded to a report shortly after 9:00 am that a car had fallen about 150 yards down a cliff on Monticello Road in Napa County.

According to the CHP, a highway patrol helicopter, Napa firefighters, CALFIRE, and other authorities responded to the incident.

CHP said they lowered a paramedic to the vehicle with a hoist in what they described as a “lengthy extrication from the vehicle".

Footage posted by the CHP shows a person on a stretcher being pulled up to the helicopter. Authorities said she was flown to Queen of the Valley Hospital where she was in a stable condition.

“Luckily for the driver, a bicyclist happened to be riding in the area and saw her vehicle go over the cliff,” Highway Patrol officers wrote on Facebook. “Without the bicyclist observing the vehicle, it’s unknown how long it would’ve taken for her to be found in the heavily wooded area.” Credit: California Highway Patrol – Napa via Storyful
