Police make Huddersfield town centre crash appeal after OAP seriously hurt

An elderly man has suffered a serious head injury after being hit by a van in Huddersfield town centre.

West Yorkshire Police say the man was hit at around 11.51am on Wednesday, September 25 on Kirkgate. The 79-year-old man was hit by a brown Mercedes Sprinter van.

This took place as the van was turning right from Wood Street. The man was taken to hospital with a serious head injury and is currently stable.

The police said: "Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious injury collision in Huddersfield.

"It happened at about 11.51am yesterday (Wednesday) in Kirkgate and involved a brown Mercedes Sprinter van and a 79-year-old pedestrian.

"The collision occurred as the van was turning right out of Wood Street.

"The pedestrian was taken to hospital where he was treated for a serious head injury.

"His condition is said to be stable."
