Police are hunting a suspect after a teenage girl was allegedly groped and sexually assaulted on a London bus.

The 17-year-old was sat on the top deck of a bus travelling between Bluewater Shopping Centre and Woolwich when a man aged in his 40s boarded.

He went upstairs, sat next to her – despite there being other seats available – and began to grope and sexually touch her, Scotland Yard said.

The victim got up from her seat and confronted the man before getting off the bus at Plumstead Corner.

The suspect had boarded the Route 96 bus at Dartford Magistrates’ Court at about 6.30pm on August 28.

He got off shortly after Plumstead High Street/Lakedale Road.

The suspect is described as a white man, aged in his 40s, of medium build with short brown hair.

He wore a brown coloured jacket, a blue T-shirt, white and black patterned shorts, grey Nike trainers and black sock. He was carrying a black rucksack.

Officers have released a CCTV image of the man they want to speak to.

PC Chris May, investigating officer from the Roads and Transport Policing Command, said: “We want to speak to this man in connection with this sexual assault.

“If you can identify him, or offer any information which could progress this investigation, we would like to hear from you.”

Anyone who recognises him or has any information is urged to contact police on 101 or via Twitter @MetCC.
