Five injured after car crashes into pedestrians in London

Five people have been injured after a car ploughed into pedestrians in south-east London.

At least one person was trapped under the vehicle after the accident, which occurred around 8.20am on Sunday morning.

The car was travelling along Bromley Road, Bellingham, when the driver reportedly lost control and crashed into a group of pedestrians before hitting a wall.

An air ambulance was sent to the scene to deal with the injured.

The driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving and police are investigating.

The road remains closed as investigations are carried out.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at approximately 8.20am on Sunday, 26 February, to reports of a car in collision with a wall and a number of pedestrians on Bromley Road in Bellingham.

"Officers, the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance are in attendance.

“Five people were treated at the scene. They have all been taken to south and east London hospitals.

“We await an update on their condition.”
