Police investigating after ‘suspicious man’ approached girl, 9, near school

Police are appealing for information about a man who was reportedly “acting suspiciously” around a Lancashire school.

It has been reported that a nine-year-old girl was approached by a man on Monday (November 28) near Sacred Heart Primary School in Ashton, Preston.

He allegedly tried to engage in conversation with her but there was no attempt to make physical contact with her.

Police officers are carrying out additional patrols in the area and anyone with information has been asked to get in touch.

A police spokesperson said: “We are aware of a report of a man acting suspiciously around Sacred Heart Primary School in Ashton, Preston.

“It was reported a 9-year-old girl was approached by a male at around 3:10pm on Monday (November, 28) who tried to engage in conversation with her. There was no attempt to make physical contact with the girl.

“We know that this will be causing some concerns for the community and our officers are carrying out additional patrols in this area and around other local schools. Please come and speak to us if you have any concerns.

“The investigation into this report is very much ongoing and our officers would like to hear from anyone who may have any information which may assist in our enquiries.

“As always, if you come across anything that appears suspicious, please report to us on 101. If you suspect you are in immediate danger, call 999.”
