Police investigation starts after man dies in Bath crash
A police investigation has begun after a man died in an early-hours car crash on the outskirts of Bath today. Officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward and for any dashcam footage following the single-vehicle crash.
The driver’s next of kin has been informed of his death and a specially-trained family liaison officer is providing family members with support. Avon and Somerset Police has sent its sympathies to the man’s relatives.
Emergency services were called to the Pennyquick and Whiteway Road area, at Twerton, at about 2.20am today. Police said a dark-coloured car was understood to be driving towards Newton St Loe when it left the carriageway.

A police spokesperson said: “A man in his 40s, who was the sole occupant of the car, was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene. His next of kin has been informed and our sympathies are with them at this hugely distressing time. A specially-trained family liaison officer will provide them with support.”
Road closures were put in place to enable emergency services to respond and for initial investigations to be carried out. These have now been lifted.
Motorists who were driving in the area and may have relevant dashcam footage, or witnesses who have not yet spoken to officers, are asked to contact the Avon and Somerset force online or call 101 and give reference number 5224224148.
