Police issue e-scooter warning over laws surrounding the popular Christmas gift
Police in Dumfries and Galloway have issued an e-scooter warning ahead of the Christmas rush.
E-scooters are likely to be a popular present this year - but it is against the law to ride a privately owned one in a public place.
That means roads, pavements, parks and pedestrianised town centres are all out of bounds, with private land the only place they can legally be used - providing the land owner agrees.

Castle Douglas Community Policing Constable Chloe Ellis said: "E-scooters are currently classified as personal light electric vehicles (PLEVs) so they are treated as motor vehicles and are subject to the same legal requirements as any other motor vehicle, requiring insurance, a valid driving licence, and compliance with various construction and use requirements."
