Police issued an update after a man was knocked off his bike. Emergency services were called to the scene of what police said was a serious crash on Walton Vale on Wednesday, August 28 at around 8.30pm.

It came following a report a cyclist had been knocked off his bike by a black Mercedes near to the Windsor pub. Merseyside Police said officers attended the area and located the car involved in the crash and the driver a short time later.

A 48-year-old man from Melling was arrested on suspicion of drink driving, dangerous driving and driving with no insurance. In an update today, Thursday, August 29, police said he remains in custody.

Significant damage was caused to the windscreen of the car and officers said they were previously concerned for the welfare of the cyclist who left the scene. In a further update today, a spokesperson for Merseyside Police said a man in his 20s has come forward and identified himself as the cyclist involved and was due to attend hospital to be checked over.

Sergeant Martin Mayne from the Roads Policing Unit previously said: "Officers are also appealing to anyone who has CCTV, or doorbell, footage that captured the incident to come forward, they are particularly interested in talking to any motorists who were in the area who may have dashcam footage of the incident."
