Police have issued an update following the arrests of six people after a gun was spotted. At around 2.55pm on Monday, January 27 armed officers from Merseyside Police swarmed Brownlow Hill.

Five men and one woman were arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm following the incident. A large police cordon was put in place following the incident, closing a section of Brownlow Hill at the junction of Great Newton Street.

Armed police were spotted at the scene and enquiries appeared to be ongoing in an alleyway behind a row of houses. Photos showed multiple police vehicles at the scene and a cordon in place outside Liverpool John Moores University's School of Art and Design.

Merseyside Police has now confirmed all six people arrested were bailed pending further enquiries. One man, who lives inside the cordon on Great Newton Street, told the ECHO how he was watching TV and saw all the blue flashing lights through his window from the emergency service vehicles.

He said: “I don’t know what’s happened, I’m just going to walk my dog.” Students from the nearby universities were also seen at the cordon as police blocked off the road.

Anyone with information is asked to contact @MerPolCC or call 101 quoting reference 457 of 27 January. Information can also be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
