Police say officers were called to reports of 'a group of people' trying to stop workers from felling a number of trees. Officers were sent to the greenspace on Meir Park's Canberra Crescent.

StokeonTrentLive reported how three police cars were spotted at the scene. One resident said people were 'livid' over the trees being felled and 'an angry crowd' had gathered.

Now Staffordshire Police has confirmed the force was called to the scene at 1.50pm. A spokeswoman said: "We were called to reports of a group of people trying to stop a gardening business from chopping down a number of trees on Canberra Crescent, Meir Park, after the landowner arranged it.
