Police are investigating whether a barrier played a role in the death of a 20-year-old student who reportedly died from a head injury last night.

Although the full details of the incident are yet to emerge, the North East Ambulance Service confirmed they were called to reports of a head injury at around 11.55pm.

It is believed that the incident occurred near the Missoula nightclub in Durham.

According to the Northern Echo, eyewitnesses have described how a woman was injured as people queued to get into the club – which advertises its Game Over event as Durham’s biggest student night.
