Police have launched a major investigation after the bodies of a man and a woman were found at a house on a quiet residential street.

Officers were called to Slate Drive in Kettering, Northants., at about 1pm on Friday (27/8) over concerns for the welfare of the occupants.

They made the "tragic discovery" inside the detached property and both victims were confirmed dead at the scene despite the efforts of paramedics.

Northamptonshire Police has cordoned off the scene while forensic examinations take place on the street, where house prices average around £300,000.

The force is now appealing for anyone with information, including CCTV and doorbell camera footage, to get in touch.

Detective Chief Inspector Joe Banfield, said: "Following this tragic discovery, we are working at pace to establish what has happened and are asking anyone who believes they may be able to help us to get in touch as soon as possible.

"I know many people will be concerned about this incident, and I would like to offer our reassurance that we have a large number of officers dedicated to our investigation."

The force added that post mortems are due to be carried out over the weekend.

Residents said they were shocked when ten patrol cars and 15 officers arrived at the  house which has been occupied for two years.

A cordon was set up around the home, the walled garden and shared garage.

One neighbour said: "I think it's something quite bad.  There were about 15 officers here. They were paring everywhere."

A woman, who did not want to be named, added:  "I don't talk to the neighbours much. My partner messaged me at about 1.30pm to tell me police were everywhere.

"It's normally pretty quiet around here. It's the first time I've seen a police car here."

Another said: "It's absolutely not good news whatever it is. The police haven't said anything to me."
