Police say 'mindless vandalism' on Yr Wyddfa could have been 'catastrophic'
Police say vandalism to fencing and walls along a route up Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) could have had "catastrophic" consequences. "Mindless" vandals have caused damage to fences and stone walls in various locations between Rhyd Ddu Railway Station and Yr Wyddfa.
North Wales Police's Rural Crime Team said the "repeated" damage had taken place in a number of locations, but particularly in areas surrounding the Rhyd Ddu Path, which leads to the summit of Yr Wyddfa. They said livestock had escaped due to the damage caused.
PC Michelle Allsup said: “This mindless act of damage has not only meant a significant financial impact on the victims who will need to repair the damage but has also meant that livestock were able to escape and make their way towards the railway and road which could have been catastrophic. If anyone has any information in relation to this, please contact the Rural Crime Team on 101, quoting reference number 24000921956.”
