A former police constable who downloaded tens of thousands of indecent images of children has avoided jail.

Peter Ba Han was sacked from the force for downloading more than 65,000 indecent pictures and 336 videos of children.

He was given a 20-month prison sentence suspended for two years at Southwark Crown Court on Thursday.

The 55-year-old, a former officer in Kingston, pleaded guilty to one count of making an indecent image of a child at an earlier hearing on February 10.

He was dismissed without notice from the Metropolitan Police following a special case hearing that concluded on Friday, March 10.
