A police officer has issued a warning to fellow motorists after he was targeted in a road tax scam.

PCSO Mark Dixon, who covers the Darwen area, sent out a warning using the InTheKnow alert system. PCSO Dixon revealed that he had received an email, containing a link, which claimed that his vehicle tax was due.

The officer was able to quickly identify the email as being part of a scam as he was aware that his tax was not due for renewal. He has urged fellow motorists to only use official government website to check the status of their vehicle tax and to not click on links in unsolicited emails.

"Always be aware and do NOT click on any links if unsure."

If you receive a suspicious or unsolicited email, you should not click on any links, reply to the email, or open any attachments.
