A police officer is in hospital with “serious injuries” after she was the victim of a hit-and-run while investigating a suspected break in.

The officer, from Thames Valley Police, was responding to reports of a burglary on Saturday evening in Milton Keynes.

But when she arrived at the scene on Belsize Avenue the suspects drove off in a car, knocking her over and injuring her leg.

Her injuries are not life-threatening but she has been taken to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford for further treatment.

Detective Superintendent Justin Fletcher, the senior investigating officer, said: “We are at the early stages of this investigation in which a police officer suffered a serious injury.”

The car is believed to be a black Audi S3, the force said, and was seen travelling along Beverley Place, a road close to Belsize Avenue in the Springfield neighbourhood of Milton Keynes.

Anyone with information, including motorists with dashcam footage, is asked to call the police by ringing 101.
