A police officer has been stabbed in north London after chasing a man seen with a knife.

The injured officer was stabbed in the arm and is being treated in hospital. His condition is not life threatening.

A Taser was used and a man was arrested on suspicion of GBH during the incident in Hendon at around 1.15pm on Friday. He has also been taken to hospital as a precaution.

Scotland Yard had received reports of a man seen in possession of a knife in Hendon Way.

Roy Smith, the Met Police’s North West basic command unit commander, said: “This is another example of the dangers our officers face on a daily basis as they go about their duty protecting the people of London.

“I have visited the injured officer in hospital and thankfully he should make a full recovery from his injury.”
