Police partially open road in Preston city centre following dramatic bus fire

Lancashire Police have partially reopened a road in Preston city centre following a bus fire this morning.

Dramatic pictures were shared on social media after a Preston Bus was destroyed by an inferno today (September 18). The scenes unfolded on Deepdale Road near the city centre, with firefighters from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service attending the scene at around 8.16am.

The junction with St George's Road and Argyll Road was closed as a result of the blaze and officers expected this to last "for at least an hour". Now, the force state the road has been partially re-opened for motorists to travel through.

However, repair works are still underway so it may take longer to get through the area. Police warn to avoid travel if not urgent.

During the height of the incident, two fire engines were in attendance with firefighters wearing breathing apparatus. One hose reel jet was used, as well as a thermal imagine camera to extinguish the fire.

Crews were in attendance for two hours and twenty minutes. Lancashire Police have thanked members of the public for their patience during the road closure.
