Police pelted with bricks at Keyway Retail Park while responding to ATM theft

Police officers were pelted with bricks while responding to reports of an ATM theft at a Black Country retail park. Thieves tried stealing the ATM from a store at Keyway Retail Park in Willenhall, Walsall, in the early hours of Tuesday, May 28.

Once officers arrived, their police car was pelted with bricks before the offenders sped off in the direction of Armstrong Way.

Thankfully officers were injured during the incident but the police car was badly damaged. Forensic and CCTV enquiries are underway to catch the suspects.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "We're investigating after an attempt to steal an ATM at a store on the Keyway Retail Park in Willenhall, at around 3.30am on Tuesday. Officers attended and bricks were thrown at a police car before the offenders left in a car in the direction of Armstrong Way.

"Thankfully no officers were injured but the police vehicle was significantly damaged. Forensic experts have been examining the scene and CCTV is being reviewed as enquiries continue."
