Police have launched an investigation after 'disorder involving a large crowd of people' left one man in hospital and 'wrecked' a fight night. Officers were called out to Fenton Manor on Saturday night where organisers had been forced to stop the main event.

StokeonTrentLive reported earlier how Battleground Boxing Promotions had spoken out after the incident and said the actions of 'some fools' had 'wrecked it for everyone'. Now Staffordshire Police have confirmed one man was found with a cut to his eye and taken to hospital after cops were called to the event, 'Fight Club 2', at around 11.20pm.

A spokesman for the force said: "We were called to Fenton Manor Sports Complex following reports of disorder involving a large crowd of people. Officers went to the scene and spoke with a number of people to find out more about what happened.

"A man was found with a cut to his eye. He was taken to hospital by officers as a precaution but was not seriously hurt.

Anyone who saw what happened or those with information that can help us with our enquiries are asked to get in touch by calling 101."

Promoters issued an apology to punters over the disorder - and have slammed the actions of those who became embroiled in the trouble. One fan has written in response that it had been an 'epic night of boxing' - before the trouble.

In a post on Facebook the promoters wrote: "We are extremely sorry for the outbreak of trouble which resulted in the main event being stopped halfway through. We are really shocked - the night was going great with some brilliant bouts and the atmosphere was electric.

"We always try our best to give the best we possibly can, everyone was commenting all around saying how good the boxing and night was. But right at the end some fools go and wreck it for everyone. We don't tolerate things like that and we don't expect behaviour like that to happen.

"We put so much time and effort into putting these shows together and it just deeply saddens us when something like this has happened. We try to make these events a great experience and night out for all and everyone but to the people who caused this trouble and are reading it, I hope you are happy with ruining such a great event."

Witnesses should call 101 and quote incident 797 of September 28.
