Police Pyrotechnics Team Helps Close Levee Breached by Czech Flooding

Police pyrotechnicians were called in after a levee along the confluence of the Opava and Odra rivers was breached amid intense flooding in the Czech city of Ostrava.

Footage from the Fire and Rescue Service of the Czech Republic shows members of the fire service and the police lowering sandbags toward the damaged embankment. Ropes can be seen detonated from a height, with the bags then wedging themselves in with the impact of the fall.

Local news reported that at least two people were confirmed to have died as a result of the flooding, while eight people were missing.

Defense Minister Jana Cernochova said on Monday night that the government would deploy 2,000 soldiers to help with flood relief. Credit: Czech Fire Rescue Service via Storyful
