Police raid Glasgow flat as residents evacuated after 'hazardous substances' found

Residents were evacuated from a block of flats in Glasgow after a police raid.

Officers stormed a property on Balbeggie Street, in the Sandyhills area of the city, at around 10.20pm on Friday.

Inside they discovered a small cannabis farm and potentially hazardous substances.

A 56-year-old man was arrested in connection with drug offences.

Neighbours staying in some nearby flats were evacuated as a precaution.

Emergency services could be seen outside the block of flats at around 1.30am on Friday morning.

Police confirmed evacuated residents have now been allowed to return to their homes.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 10.20pm on Friday, 13 September, we attended a flat on Balbeggie Street, Glasgow, and discovered a small cannabis cultivation and potentially hazardous substances within.

"As a precaution, residents from some nearby flats were temporarily moved but have since returned to their homes.

"There is no wider risk to the public.

"A 56-year-old man has been arrested in connection with drug offences and enquiries are ongoing."

The Scottish Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment.
