Detectives have released an e-fit of a woman they are trying to trace after a newborn baby boy was found left in a park three weeks ago.

George was just hours old when he was discovered by a dog walker in a park in Birmingham, on 22 April.

Despite an urgent appeal to track down the mother, West Midlands Police have so far been unable to find her despite several appeals.

On Thursday, the force released a computer generated image of a woman they are keen to speak to as part of the ongoing hunt for George's mother.

The e-fit was created by experts at Thames Valley Police and was put together after officers spoke to a key witness.

The force are urging anyone who knows the woman to get in contact and have reassured the mother that George is healthy and doing well with his foster carers.

Detectives say they are "desperately concerned" about the woman and want to check she is doing okay, both both physically and mentally.

Detective Inspector Neil Hunt, who is leading the investigation, said: “Once again, I really want to reach out to George’s mother as you are my concern.

"I’m worried about you and I need to make sure you are safe and well.

“We’ve not taken the decision to issue this image lightly or to frighten you.

"We simply want to find you so we can talk to you, check you are okay, and offer any help or support you may need."

The force has previously issued photos of George as well as the £1 Matalan T-shirt as the dirty blanket he was wearing when he was found.

Police said their enquiries have been extensive and they had followed a number of leads - but have been able to find the mother.

The woman has been described as white, around 5ft 6ins tall and of medium/large build.

She was wearing a light grey zipped hoodie and jogging bottoms. Her hair may have been in a low ponytail at the time.

Officers have been handing out leaflets that includes the image in the local area, encouraging anyone who recognises the woman to get in touch.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police via live chat on the force's website or by calling 101, quoting log 3476 of 22 April.
