Police Rescue Baby After Armed Standoff Following Chase

Little Rock Police rescued an infant and took an armed suspect into custody on December 19 after a chase led to a tense standoff on a highway exit ramp.

The suspect reportedly fled from police with two young children after firing shots in a Little Rock Walmart parking lot. After a chase on Highway 40, police, including one armed with a rifle, surrounded the white SUV and coaxed the suspect to give up. Tensions increased when officers discovered the suspect was holding a gun and had an infant and another child in the car.

After several suspenseful minutes where officers trained their weapons on the still-armed driver, one officer reached into the passenger’s side of the vehicle to remove an infant. Following several more minutes of negotiation, the suspect exited the car and walked backwards into police custody.
