Police reveal reason for major emergency response near Fosse Park

Multiple emergency services were called to reports of a body in the River Soar today (Thursday, November 14). The incident led to a major route near Fosse Park being blocked for some time.

The search operation was launched following what Leicestershire Police said was a "call of good intent". Officers had received reports of a body reportedly in the river near the A563 Soar Valley Way at around 11.30am.

A specialist drone unit was brought in to assist police with the search. The response led to large queues for motorists in and around Fosse Park as lanes were blocked by emergency services.

In a statement, Leicestershire Police confirmed that no body had been found in the river. A spokesperson said: "At 11.38am a call of good intent was made to the force concerning what was thought to be a body in the River Soar near to Soar Valley Way.

"Officers from the force, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service and East Midlands Ambulance Service all attended the scene. An extensive search was carried out, including the use of a National Police Air Service drone, however no body was found."

Traffic in and around Soar Valley Way returned to normal by around 2.30pm.
