Police make riot arrest in Birmingham after Audi Q5 traffic stop

An Audi driver wanted for suspected rioting offences in August was stopped by police in Birmingham in the early hours of Saturday morning, September 7. The SUV motorist was stopped by West Midlands Police's firearms units in Birmingham after allegedly making off from West Mercia Police crews earlier that evening.

The car was being followed close to junction 2 of the M5 by West Mercia Police officers, according to Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG). Central Motorway Police Group, which covers the road network across the West Midlands and Staffordshire, shared details of the traffic stop on their X channel in the early hours of Saturday morning, September 7.

An hour after leaving the M5 area, the car was then located and stopped by crews from West Midlands Police's firearms unit and traffic officers. After a search, the car was also seized for reportedly having "no insurance no licence."

Central Motorway Police Group shared a picture from the arrest scene showing the Audi stopped on the side of the road next to a traffic officer's car. The picture was shared at 2:45am on Saturday morning.

Central Motorway Police Group: "Audi Q5 made off from West Mercia Police Force Operations crews near J2 M5. An hour later West Midlands Police Firearms (@FirearmsWMP) unit located the vehicle in Birmingham and we assisted in stopping the vehicle. Driver gave us false details but fingerprints don’t lie. Driver wanted for Rioting in August."

The post added that the Audi Q5 was seized "for no insurance no licence."
