Police search for man who shoved pedestrian into London traffic after they ‘brushed shoulders’

Police are searching for a man who pushed a pedestrian into a busy London road because they “brushed shoulders”.

CCTV footage and a photo have been released by City of London Police in an effort to track down the man who shoved someone into traffic.

The incident happened on the east pavement of New Bridge Street going northbound at about 8am on July 23 this year.

In the footage, the 57-year-old male victim is shoved from behind off the pavement into the busy road.

Police say the two men brushed shoulders and exchanged words. The victim continued to walk his way to work but was followed by the suspect who then pushed him towards the oncoming cars.

A taxi stopped just a few feet from the victim.

The victim suffered grazes to his hands and arms and was dazed for a brief period of time.

Police said members of the public helped the victim and even followed the suspect to confront him. One member of the public took a photo of the man.

Detective Constable Duff, from the City of London Police, said: “We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed this incident in July or who may know the man in the photograph.

“The quick thinking actions of the taxi driver undoubtedly prevented this incident having much more severe consequences for the victim. However he is still naturally shocked and horrified by what happened to him.
