Police find second body in search for missing British man in Majorca
Police searching for a British man in the mountainous region of Majorca, where a British woman was found dead earlier in the week, have now discovered a body.
The pair are believed to have been victims of a sudden flash flood.
A spokesperson for Spain's Civil Guard stated that both individuals were following a trail through a small canyon towards the sea when severe weather struck the Mediterranean island on Tuesday.
Search and rescue teams have been scouring the vicinity near Torrent de Pareis canyon in the Tramuntana mountains since the alarm was raised on Wednesday.
A body, believed to be that of the missing man, was retrieved on Friday, as confirmed by the Civil Guard to Reuters.
The Torrent de Pareis, a dramatic gorge which leads to a secluded beach, is known for regular flooding between autumn and spring and is bordered by imposing cliffs, rendering escape challenging, as per local tourism information.
Earlier in the week, weather warnings were in effect for the Balearic Islands and much of Spain's eastern coastline due to predictions of strong winds and torrential downpours.
In Barcelona, adverse thunderstorms led to America's Cup sailing event organisers delaying scheduled races.
Regarding the incident, a Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office spokesperson commented: "We are supporting the families of a British man and woman following their deaths in Majorca and are in contact with local authorities."
