Police seize untaxed vehicle while on way to station to book in confiscated drugs
A driver is now without a car after Swindon police officers discovered it had not been taxed for months.
The motorist was caught after officers from the Central South Neighbourhood team conducted a patrol in some anti-social hotspots and carried out an unrelated stop and search in Queen's Park that resulted in the seizure of cannabis.
This would unexpectedly lead the police to cross paths with the hapless car driver while on their way back to Gablecross police station to book the confiscated drugs into the property store.
Posting about the incident on Facebook, a spokesperson for the neighbourhood team explained what happened.
"One officer came across a vehicle following some information received and seized it for NO TAX as the user of this vehicle hasn't taxed it since 1st November 2022," they said.
"This is a gentle reminder everybody should tax their vehicles and keep your insurance, Registered keeper details, MOT in date and in line with the law!
"Not only will the owner of this vehicle be required to tax the vehicle before retrieving it back they will also be required to make payments to DVLA for any payments owed and any storage fees."
