Police Shoot Man Dead In North London Flats

Police have shot a man dead in north London after they were called to reports of a person making threats to kill.

The suspect left an address in Barnet before officers arrived at around 9.30pm last night but two hours later investigating officers went to Cedar Road in Enfield.

There a white man, believed to be in his forties, was shot by an officer after about 20 armed police reportedly "swarmed" Picardy House, an 11-storey block of flats.

Dowan Mustafa, who lives on the seventh floor with his mother, said: "The coppers came in and after I heard the shots.

"I heard two gunshots, proper loud gunshots, which woke everyone up.

"They are saying it was a shotgun but we are not too sure.

"Everyone has been evacuated from the sixth floor."

A non-police gun was found at the scene.

The incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission as a matter of course.
