Police statement on fire that ripped through terrace in Leeds
Detectives and fire investigators are working to establish the cause of a fire at a house in Leeds which forced the evacuation of several nearby homes.
Police and fire crews were called to Sholebroke Place, Potternewton, at 12.38pm today to a report of an ongoing house fire. Firefighters, police and ambulance services attended the incident, with eight fire engines sent to the scene. Local people were warned to close doors and windows due to a large amount of smoke.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "All persons were evacuated from the house involved with persons also being asked to leave neighbouring properties to ensure their safety.

"Initial investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing by specialist fire investigators and Leeds District CID."
Anyone who has information which could assist the investigation is asked to contact Leeds CID on 101 referencing police log 0791 of September 28.
West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service sent eight fire engines to the scene. A fire service spokesman said eight to nine properties were evacuated, with local people advised to keep windows and doors closed because of smoke.
Appliances attended from several stations including Leeds, Moortown, Hunslet, Bradford, Killingbeck and Stanningley.
A specialist aerial appliance was also brought in.
