Emergency services swarmed to Cleethorpes Boating Lake on Thursday evening following reports a person had fallen into the water.

However, Humberside Police have since confirmed it is now "believed to be a hoax call". Personnel from police, the fire service, coastguard and ambulance service were among those called to Kings Road at around 8pm.

This morning, a Humberside Police spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a concern for safety that someone had fallen into the water at Cleethorpes Boating Lake on Kings Road in Cleethorpes at around 8pm last night (Thursday 21 November).

"Emergency services were immediately deployed and following a thorough search of the area, it is believed to be a hoax call and thankfully, no one is thought to have been injured."

Humberside Fire & Rescue's log of the callout says the lake was searched by firefighters, coastguards, and ambulance staff but nobody was found in the water.

A witness at the scene said it was "all highly eventful" with drones and other equipment used during the search operation.

Supervisor at Cleethorpes Kitchen and Taphouse, Phoebe Holmes, said: “I was getting ready to leave when a police car arrived and a policewoman sprinted across the grass towards the Boating Lake and within minutes there were loads of emergency services. There were flashing lights all over.

"The ambulance first responders came, then three fire engines. There were drones going up and floodlights lit up the whole area. The search and rescue helicopter came and circled around. Inevitably there were loads of people who parked up to watch it all. The car parked was totally filled. After over an hour they all started packing up."
