Police statement after North Staffordshire train death tragedy

Police have ruled out any suspicious circumstances around the death of a person who was struck by a train in North Staffordshire. Officers and paramedics had been called to the stretch through Barlaston on Monday afternoon.

StokeonTrentLive reported how the alarm had been raised at around 4.45pm with emergency services sent to the tracks between Stoke and Stafford stations. West Midlands Ambulance Service sent an ambulance and two paramedic officers - but say that sadly nothing could be done to save the patient.

Today British Transport Police has said officers are not treating the death as suspicious. A spokeswoman said: "We were called to an area of the line in Stoke-on-Trent following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
