Police statement as pensioner caught on Aston Expressway 'reminded about driving scooters safely'
Police have praised a quick-thinking driver who used his recovery truck to shield a pensioner who had seemingly taken a wrong turn onto the A38 Aston Expressway. Concerns were raised after the elderly woman drove her mobility scooter onto the 50mph motorway earlier this week.
A recovery truck driver, who happened to be passing by, spotted the pensioner and quickly turned on his lights before following her in the lane behind to protect her from traffic. The driver, who asked to remain anonymous, said he had spotted her weaving in and out of traffic.
He called police and thankfully the woman was brought to safety by the time she reached Dartmouth Circus. Our readers praised the truck driver as a "hero" and said he deserved and award.

West Midlands Police confirmed today that the woman was safe and that she had been reminded about driving scooters "safely". A force spokesperson told BirminghamLive: "We’d like to thank everyone who called us to report a mobility scooter on the A38(M).
"We’d especially like to thank the driver of a recovery truck who used his vehicle to shield the woman and warn others of the danger, along with National Highways colleagues who activated traffic warning signs and go-slows on the road. Our officers reminded the woman about driving scooters safely and carried out checks on her well-being."
