Police update after Stoke-on-Trent arson attack sparks evacuation and shuts road

Police are continuing to investigate an arson attack which left casualties needing medical attention and closed a road. Police, paramedics and firefighters were called to the property fire on Rosebery Street, in Pittshill.

It resulted in residents being evacuated from the building and two people being treated for smoke inhalation. Police later arrested a Stoke-on-Trent man on suspicion of arson.

Now Staffordshire Police have bailed the suspect. Emergency services had been called to the scene at 7.45pm on Sunday 3 November.

A police spokesman said: "A man in his 40s and from Stoke-on-Trent who was arrested on suspicion of arson has since been released under investigation while inquiries continue."

Police are appealing for witnesses following the blaze. They should call the police on 101, quoting incident number 589 of November 3, or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
