Police swarm Glasgow Royal Exchange Square amid report of man 'falling inside building'

Emergency services have swarmed the city's Royal Exchange Square in an ongoing incident.

A "large emergency presence" scrambled to the city centre on Wednesday (September 11) afternoon following a report a man had fallen from a balcony within the Gallery of Modern Art.

His condition remains unknown at this time, however, police are understood to still be at the scene.

The force has confirmed there is no wider threat to the public.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We would like to reassure the public following a large emergency presence in Royal Exchange Square.

"This is related to a report a man has fallen within one of the buildings. There is no wider threat to the public."

A Gallery of Modern Art spokesperson said: "The Gallery of Modern Art has closed early today after a member of the public fell from a balcony.

"Emergency services are in attendance. The building will reopen as normal tomorrow, Thursday 12 September at 10am."
