Police swarm Kent train station after teenagers with 'weapons' spotted

Police were called to a Kent train station this morning (October 23) following reports of teenagers carrying weapons on a train. Officers from the British Transport Police arrived at Gillingham railway station just before 6am.

Southeastern confirmed soon after that services were unable to run between Sittingbourne and Rochester due to the police incident. Police stopped two teenagers on the train and searched them for the reported weapons.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Gillingham railway station just before 6am this morning (23 October) following reports of teenagers believed to be in possession of a weapon on a train. Officers attended and two teenagers were stopped however no weapons were found.”

Services resumed between Sittingbourne and the Medway towns shortly before 7am, however passengers faced some further delays and alterations as Southeastern worked to resume the normal timetable.
