Police Tackle Attempted Carjacker in Southeast Atlanta

The Atlanta Police Department released aerial footage showing the successful detaining of a suspect who attempted to carjack “an unsuspecting bystander” while fleeing police in another stolen vehicle on Thursday night, December 2.

Video from a police helicopter shows ground units pursuing the driver in southeast Atlanta when a tire on the stolen car they were driving appears to blow, leaving them “running on rims” that begin sparking against the road surface, according to a helicopter crew member speaking over radio in the footage.

Police said the suspect then attempted to carjack a bystander at a gas station, but said the car owner “ran him off.” Officers then pursued the man on foot and took him into custody. Credit: Atlanta Police Department via Storyful
