Police Use Tear Gas to Disperse Yellow Vest Protesters in Biarritz

Police in France used teargas to disperse yellow vest protesters gathered in the city of Biarittz on December 18, according to local reports.

The protests had been organized to coincide with a planned visit from President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday to launch the French presidency of the G7. The group is due to hold its leaders’ summit in Biarittz in August 2019.

Macron cancelled his visit but the meeting went ahead with government officials, FranceBleu reported.

Local reports said tensions rose as protesters attempted to approach the Hotel de Ville, where the town’s mayor was hosting Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian. Police used tear gas to disperse the protesters, the report said. Credit: SanDra39590927 via Storyful
