Police Use Tear Gas as Wisconsin Protest Declared Unlawful

Police fired tear gas twice to disperse protesters who gathered in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, on the night of October 7-8.

Protesters took to the streets after a decision was made not to charge a police officer involved in the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Alvin Cole in February. Police declared an unlawful assembly before midnight.

Cole was shot dead after producing a handgun while fleeing officers following an argument at a mall, according to local reports.

The Sentinel Journal said that, in anticipation of unrest over the decision, the City of Wauwatosa shut down City Hall for three days and classes were moved online. Credit: Gabbie Becker via Storyful
